Real Madrid have reached an agreement in principle with Málaga over the signing of Isco. With the final details of the deal for the Spain Under-21 international awaiting completion, he will move to the Santiago Bernabéu on a five-year contract. This follows talks between Florentino Pérez, Madrid director general José Ángel Sánchez and Málaga director general Vicente Casado in the Spanish capital on Friday (the trio also met at the offices of the Bernabéu on 22 May) during which the player’s transfer was sealed for a fee of 30 million euros.
The move will be confirmed next week, while the 21-year-old will be officially presented at the beginning of July. In the coming days, the two La Liga clubs will discuss the possibility of loaning a Madrid player to La Rosaleda as part of the deal (Denis Cheryshev appears the most likely candidate). Isco, who won the Golden Boy award for 2012, is currently on holiday in Ibiza and was informed of the news by his father. The agreement was announced in the early hours of Saturday morning by Spanish radio station ‘Cadena SER’.
Isco’s performances at the European Under-21 Championship and the recommendation of Zinedine Zidane have persuaded Pérez to move for one of Spanish football’s brightest prospects. Premier League side Manchester City were also chasing the midfielder, who revealed: “I have offers from City and Madrid.” Although the appointment of former Málaga coach Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad – whom Isco has described as his ‘footballing father’ – offered the youngster the prospect of more playing time, he has opted for Madrid.
Madrid players Álvaro Morata, Dani Carvajal and Nacho had urged their Under-21 colleague to join them at the club. On his return from helping ‘La Rojita’ to victory in the European Championship in Israel, Morata admitted: “I have been pressuring him and I’ve told him that Madrid is the best club in the world.”
